About Dr. Eric Taber
I’m Dr. Eric Taber, a licensed psychologist providing couples therapy, relationship-focused therapy, and individual therapy on Long Island and throughout New York via telehealth. My work is grounded in helping people better understand the patterns that keep them feeling stuck, disconnected, anxious, or unheard — and supporting them in building healthier ways of relating to themselves and others.
Why I Focus on Relationships
Professionally, I’m drawn to relationship-focused work because so much of emotional wellbeing is shaped by how connected, understood, and supported we feel in our closest relationships. In my work with couples, I often see how painful patterns — criticism, withdrawal, defensiveness, resentment, or emotional distance — can leave both partners feeling alone, even when they are trying to make things better.
Therapy offers a space to slow those patterns down, understand what is happening beneath the surface, and begin building new ways of communicating, responding, and reconnecting. For many people, improving relationship dynamics does not only change the relationship — it can also affect their confidence, mood, parenting, family life, and overall sense of emotional stability.
My Approach to Therapy
My approach is warm, collaborative, and thoughtful. I try to help clients feel understood while also helping them look honestly at the patterns that may be keeping them stuck. Whether I am working with a couple or an individual, I pay close attention to the emotional layers beneath the presenting problem — the fears, needs, assumptions, and protective reactions that often drive conflict, anxiety, disconnection, or self-doubt.
Therapy with me is not about blame or quick advice. It is about creating enough safety and clarity to understand what is happening, why it keeps happening, and what can begin to change.
Who I Help
Couples therapy is my primary focus because I believe that when our relationships thrive, we thrive. I help partners navigate trust issues, deepen intimacy, manage conflicts, and nurture the friendship at the core of a lasting partnership. Sessions are collaborative and respectful of both partners’ perspectives. If you’d like to learn more about my approach, visit my Couples Therapy page.
Couples
I work with couples who feel caught in recurring arguments, emotional distance, communication breakdowns, resentment, or difficulty rebuilding trust. Couples therapy can help partners better understand their cycle and begin creating a more connected way forward.
Individuals
I work with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, relationship concerns, life transitions, or patterns of self-criticism. Individual therapy can help you better understand your emotional experience and develop healthier ways of coping and relating.
Relationship-Focused Concerns
Many clients come to therapy because something feels difficult in their relationships — with a partner, family member, friend, or even with themselves. My work often focuses on helping people understand these patterns with more clarity and compassion.
Professional Background
I am a licensed psychologist with experience providing therapy, psychological support, and assessment-informed care across clinical and school-based settings. My private practice focuses heavily on couples therapy, relationship concerns, and individual therapy for adults who are seeking greater emotional clarity, healthier communication, and more meaningful connection.
